Hello again lovely humans!
It’s time for Ryan Recommends #3
I’m loving getting to share with you all some of my favorite games in hopes that maybe they’ll be some of YOUR favorites too! So far, we’ve talked about Fantasy Dungeon Adventures and Deck Building Games, and I hope you’ve had a chance to try some of them out.
This week, let’s talk dice! Admittedly, I’m on a dice kick at the moment. I like to collect shiny things and dice definitely fit the bill.
So, let’s talk about games that get you rolling the dice!
Dice Throne

Dice Throne has been on my recommended games list for a few months now. The mechanics are fun and there’s several different characters to choose from to fit your preferred play style. Once you have your character chosen, ROLL THOSE DICE!
We affectionately call this game Battle Yahtzee. Your character comes with a character specific deck, set of dice, and player board. Each ability on your character card can be upgraded by cards you draw and activated by rolling the correct combination of dice. For example, the pyromancer pictured above. The more of the Flame symbol I roll on the dice, the more powerful my fireball will be! Try every character to see which one fits you best.

One Deck Dungeon
One Deck Dungeon combines our older theme of Fantasy Dungeon Adventures with our new theme of Dice Games! Once again, you get to choose a character with a unique ability and allotment of certain attribute dice between Strength, Agility, and Magic. You’ll then go exploring into the door cards the deck reveals. When you encounter a trap or monster, you’ll roll to see if you overcome that challenge!
Pictured here is a Phantom of medium difficulty. To defeat him, you’ll need to cover the boxed on the card with an equal or higher number of that color. In this case, 1 Yellow 4, 1 Yellow 5, 1 Yellow 6, 1 pink 4, 1 pink 5, and 1 pink 6 (all done on a single die). Black dice are wild and can be used for any color. As you progress through, you’ll gain abilities that allow you to add more dice, reroll low dice, and many more. It’s a fun way to do some adventuring and test your dice rolling skills.
The great thing about dice is that there’s something for everyone. Dice appear in everything from the classic like Yahtzee and Monopoly all the way to the more complex tabletop games such as Warhammer 40k. We even have a dice prison for dice that consistently give you below average results! And for those who want to control the dice instead of being at their mercy…
Dice Forge

In Dice Forge you gather resources to constantly upgrade your dice. Using die faces that pop on to your base dice, the game is to craft the perfect die, whatever that means for your situation! Admittedly, I haven’t gotten to try this one out myself, but it gets my recommendation because it’s currently at the top of my list to check out ASAP. I love the concept of being able to change my dice to fit my situation.
And there are so many more!
I love dice. They’re shiny, they’re fun, and they make great scapegoats for when you roll poorly. Next time, we’ll dive a little deeper into where dice and fantasy overlap by taking a look into RPGS or Role Playing Games. In these games, dice determine how successful you are on certain tasks, but more on that next time!
